Dawlish Carnival Airshow / Procession Information

The busiest day of the week is no doubt the Thursday when we have our annual Air Display and Grand Procession. Previous year's official police figures estimated that over 150,000 people passed though the town on the Thursday.

Due to the crowds some extra planning when visiting or passing through the town is required. Below is some information to help you.

Parking

Police will be laying "No parking" cones throughout the town Wednesday night which means that there will be no street parking in the town centre all day Thursday and the car parks will no doubt be filled very early on Thursday form residents finding alternative parking spaces.

To aid visitors we are providing a Park and Ride scheme, in association with Firbank Garage, based opposite the old Timaru Gardens site on Warren Road (click here to view map). Parking costs  £3.50 per vehicle and the bus costs 50p per person return (all payable on arrival at the Car Park. We urge all visitors to use this facility. All proceeds go direct to the Carnival.

Buses at the Car Park will run from 9.30am through to 10.45pm (except during the procession- 7pm - 9pm) on a shuttle basis.

Afternoon Crowds

The Air Display starts at 1pm and finishes at4.45pm. During these times there will be thousands of people in the area of the Sea Front, please take extreme care when driving through the town during these times.

Road Closures

The Grand Procession starts from John Nash Drive at 7pm. John Nash Drive and Oak Hill will be closed to through traffic from 5.15pm until 8pm when the procession has passed through. The procession route will also be closed from 7pm - 9pm.

Line up / Judging

Line up for all procession entries is from 5.15pm until 6pm when judging will take place. Judges for all classes except Class A is carried out by people from outside the town. They will be accompanied by our committee marshals. After judging committee marshals and helpers from the ATC will arrange the procession. Once you have been judged you will be given a "I have been judged" Card. Please note that all committee members wear fluorescent jackets, badges and carry ID cards, if anyone else tries to interfere with, complain / comment on your float or give instructions relating to the procession please talk to a committee member ASAP. Only Dawlish committee members have the right to question you about your float safety measures. The Air Cadets will also be aiding the committee in marshalling the procession, please follow any directions given by them.

Collections

Buckets and cans for collecting are available at the committee table and only these should be used to collect monies. All monies collected remain the property of Dawlish Carnival Committee and must be handed in outside the Shaftsbury Theatre to Committee Officials. No other collections may be made by participants whatever the cause.
